Our congregation is a caring one. Members generously share their talent, service, and resources to care for other church members and those in Wamego and as well as international communities.
Our deacons are the first to reach out to members of our church family who are in need. If someone is ill or unable to come to church, the deacons are sure to visit.
Community Health Ministries
Our church provides the physical home for Wamego’s Community Health Ministries (CHM) just adjacent to the church. CHM operates a medical and dental clinic staffed by local doctors, dentists, nurses, and counselors, and provides a food bank and many other goods and services to those in need.
The Project Rescue of Amazon Youth was started by a local woman who visited Brazil and was moved to start a home there for neglected and abandoned children. Several members of our congregation are on PRAY’s board of directors. http://www.praymission.com
Other community and international giving
Our church participates in the Wamego Christmas Bureau and Wamego Council of Churches as well as international programs such as One Great Hour of Sharing, Heifer International, and Operation Christmas Child.
- The local Christmas Bureau sponsors families who need assistance at Christmastime; our church typically adopts one or two families to ensure they have food for Christmas dinner as well as gifts.
- The Wamego Council of Churches sponsors a yearly Walk for Warmth and Health, which collects warm coats and money to assist those who find themselves unable to pay heating bills and for some prescriptions.
- One Great Hour of Sharing, Heifer International, and Operation Christmas Child aim to alleviate poverty worldwide.
Finally, our church collects special “Fifth Sunday” offerings from time to time that are dedicated to one of these causes or other worthy efforts in the community, such as the purchase and distribution of school supplies to needy children or sending youth on mission trips.
